Our New Website Design
We have now released our new website refreshed design. We have been working on it for quite a few months. I am not sure if you realised we are self taught. Well Nick is the one who has figured it all out. In the first instance we used commerce templates and Nick manipulated it to look like we wanted, but we chose fonts selected from short lists and the layout was restricted. Since our nearly two years in business Nick has been slowly getting better and better and can now do it all himself! I had found old photoshop files recently of what we wanted our website design to look like before we started as business plans. It was a thrill, as now we knew we could make it just like that! Plus having history under our belt we also knew more about the customer experience.
The main navigation is now all at the top, customers can select “Shop By Room” to view all the different categories or rooms in the Father Rabbit House.
The opening photos are much bigger on the front page and bigger is always better with websites I think!
The product photos are five across now and provide a seamless flowing view of the items relating to the room or category selected.
Text is uncluttered. Hover above a product to see the title and the price.
When you arrive at the final product, the price is clear and we have centered everything and made the layout just a whole lot more lovely and tidy.
In the footer down the bottom of the website, all the must have quick reference information is there. You can shop by colour, brand, selection (eg wood, glass, decor) or occasion (wedding, mother’s day, housewarming).
Our phone numbers are clear and there is a quick email link. Here you also find our links to our wedding registry, gift vouchers, customer login and social media, plus delivery info and currency selections.
Another extra touch is our very visual image squares… sometimes visual is just so much easier to flow around the website, like a shop display drawing your attention. Sometimes you are just browsing and you want to be directed.

Online Shopping in New Zealand
We have been receiving some wonderful praise for our website, thank you!. I really think online shopping has taken a step up lately. Often dismissed by bricks and mortar stores, I think we work just as hard on our business as other stores in marketing, presentation, service etc etc. God forbid we had a store as well! …. and some online stores do, so they really have their work cut out for them.
In this post I would like to acknowledge some of the fabulous online shopping we have here in New Zealand and hope that the people who can’t always visit the stores check out what we all have to offer. I have picked these stores because I also love to shop and this is where I like to go whether it be for myself at home or my clients of Claudia Zinzan Design.
Douglas and Bec is the store behind the wonderful brand of lighting and furniture “Workroom”. It is run by Rebecca Snelling and Paul Dowie. They have a wonderful selection of New Zealand designers, but most importantly have great selections of hard to find international work. Everyday Needs is next level presentation and divine selections by the gorgeous Katie Lockhart, one of my most admired interior designers. She has worked internationally for many years and as a very distinct style. She finds the “hard to find” and now we can shop easily on her beautiful site. www.everyday-needs.com
Long established Simon James Design has now opened a very contemporary and exciting online store to compliment both their “store within store” at the Department Store in Auckland and their furniture and lighting showroom at Upper Queen Street. Your go to place for international furniture and lighting including Established and Sons and local brands David Trubridge. I like to recommend Simon’s amazing sofas to my clients and they are always a sucesss. With their online store they sell the “quirky” that works from Curio Noir candles to Bank in the form of a Pig sculptures by Harry Allen. www.simonjamesdesign.com
An old favourite and my first proper online shopping experience was Wallace Cotton. They have a few stores now as well and their success is to be celebrated. They are obviously very had workers and they have a wonderful quarterly catalogue that is so nice to touch and hold. Fantastic quilts and linen. www.wallacecotton.co.nz
